I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my parents and who are absolutely thrilled with this item. The main reason I purchased this over another product because of the pourer. I thought that would be useful instead of having to take out a cold cork every time. This made it so easy to drink white wine and keep it cooler long. The pourer helps to prevent dripping and is easy to use, plus the chill rod kept the wine cooler during dinner. I'm actually purchasing one for myself now because I really liked how easy it was to chill the rod and use it with the pourer. I'm just really pleased with this purchase and so are my parents.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

When I was shopping for my son to start preschool, I was thrilled to find these thermos bottles. He will only drink ice water, so I thought the straw design was wonderful for him. We wanted to be kind to the environment by NOT sending a plastic bottle every day. When the Thermos cups work properly, the cups do keep the ice water cold all day long, and the straw design is okay. Plus, they do give you an extra straw when you purchase it. I thought it was the perfect cup...

HOWEVER, I am so frustrated with the Thermos lid design that I could scream!!! These cups, by the cute character designs, are geared towards younger children. My son dropped this cup once, and the lid broke. When the lid breaks, the cup is no longer spill-proof, and it cannot be used in a lunch box again (water leaked everywhere). These cups are very expensive--around $15 each. I bought him one replacement cup, and he had it for about 3 weeks before he dropped that one, and the lid broke on that one also. I cannot find any place to purchase replacement lids. And I am never going to buy another one of these cups until they change the design of the lid--or make them easier for young children with small hands to carry by adding a handle or something.

If you are lucky enough to never drop this cup, then it's great! If you ever drop it on a hard surface, then it's terrible.

UPDATE: I did contact the THERMOS customer care line 1-800-831-9242, and I was able to order replacement lids for the thermos cups. They only cost $2 per lid and were shipped quickly with replacement straws as well. Since you can order replacement lids, I would update my review back to 3 stars.

review

I'm a very visual person and 1st impressions do last for me. A bit of pre-history: I looked for 2 10" quality pans for quite some time and found Circulon® Elite 8" & 10" Open Deep Skillet Set Reg. $80.00 Sale $39.99 on macys.com Thanks to my insightful husband who asked me to look the set up on amazon, I found out from the amazon reviews that the pans' weight was not centered and shifted toward the handle, which made them very unstable. Macys.com had glowing reviews for the set and noone mentioned such a major drawback. I really wanted to buy circulon pans, because according to reviews the quality was exceptional and they were on sale. I finally came across this set (Circulon Contempo Hard Anodized Nonstick 8-Inch and 10-Inch Skillets Twin Pack) and made up my mind to get 2 sets since I needed 2 10" pans and didn't mind to get extra 2 8" ones. The deal was really sweet: 4 pans for $60, no tax, prime free shipping and in 2 days I'm opening the box. The design is very sleek, the pans look sturdy and well-made, they are not light, but aren't heavy either - quality stuff. I do not believe the pictures do them justice. I have not tested the pans in action yet, so there will be an update, but they look solid and stand flat on my crooked electric stove. When I placed the order, I felt like I was gambling, because you can't really see the quality from the images provided. Because of that, I decided to give circulon some free advertising for the sweet deal and attached several photos to make the decision easier for you.

------------------------------------------------------------

4.5 months later.....

These pans are very different from the ones I used in the past.

(1) The major thing that needed some getting accustomed to was the fact that you'd hardly hear any "cooking" sounds unless your stove is on fire. I mean, on temps under med-high (electric stove)...almost nothing. Then you flip your food over and it's burnt.

(2) I learned fast that these pans heat up way more than regular ones, so if I used to cook something on 4, I'll go down to 2.5-3 for the same results here.

(3) It's not unquestionably non-stick. I fried an egg without adding any oil and it didn't really slide around. I cook eggs over easy and the egg york tore while being flipped over. No bueno! BUT a single drop of oil makes it truly non-stick. Besides, food does taste better this way!

(4) Absolutely true that cleaning is a breeze. I kind of even like doing it :-)

(5) A few times accidentally touched the metal part of the handle, where it attaches to the pan. It was H.O.T.!! My older pans have non-metallic handles all the way, so I don't know what's up with this design glitch.

Overall, after a week or so of adjusting my cooking techniques to this new purchase, I'm truly happy. The food cooks faster and crisper due to grill-like wavy surface of the pan. I would buy the pans again and highly recommend them, especially when they are on sale - you won't find such great price/quality ratio. Subtracting one star, though, because there's room for improvement.

P.S. I'm glad you found my pictures helpful in making a decision. Enjoy new recipes and easy clean-up!

I purchased this after spending 2 hours zesting limes for a gourmet cookie recipe with the traditional potato-peeler+ food processor method. The most time consuming part is carefully scraping way all the white pith on the inside of the peel. The pith is very bitter and can ruin your recipe. This zester did the same job in 30 seconds and didn't even touch the pith. Just pure, perfect lime zest with no effort. Totally worth its weight in gold. Now I can make those cookies again without my hands cramping up after hours scraping the peels. Who has time for that?

I've also started using it for grating parmesan. Definately takes Ceaser salads and pasta up a notch. I'm purchasing several more as gifts for my friends. Would make an incredible (and cheap) holiday/birthday gift for anyone, even the casual cook. Please note that the size of the grated zest or cheese is very fine and not ideal as a garnish. Parmesan or Romano grated with this tool melts quickly into the pasta, and doesn't lend much to the presentation. Tastes great, but hard to see. If you're looking for a garnishing tool, this is not it.

I ordered this twin pack of Circulon skillets and am extremely satisfied with them. They are heavy duty and so non-stick you can wipe them out with a paper towel! The feel is nice and not so overly

heavy that those of us with arthritis in our hands cannot manage them.

I have really enjoyed them and would definitely recommend them to

others. As always, they were shipped very quickly, and I know I could

depend on Amazon to make it right if they had not been so. You can buy with confidence if you are in the market for good-quality smaller

skillets!

Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) I bought a G4 Griddler from Amazon in 2005, and used it a couple of times a week (at least) until it had to be put out to pasture in 2010 due to failure of the non-stick coating on the plates. (The coating started to bubble and peel, and no one wants that in their food...) I loved it. (See my review of the Cuisinart GR-4 Griddler Stainless-Steel 4-in-1 Grill/Griddle and Panini Press) It was still working great, but replacement plates were not available.

I was elated when offered the opportunity to review its smarter younger brother, the GR-4NAM Griddler. I could hardly wait for it to get here and run it through its paces.

At first glance, the GR-4NAM looks virtually identical to the G4. However, closer inspection reveals that it has been totally redesigned, and for the better.

Improvement: The grease catcher used to be a little cup that had to be set under a spout on the side of the bottom plate. If it was positioned incorrectly, (or forgotten about), greased dripped out on the counter. The grease catcher is now integrated into the Griddler as a drawer-like device that can be pulled out to clean, and then put back in place for the next use.

Improvement: The original G4 had two sets of plates - one flat set, one ridged set (for paninis). There is now one reversible set of plates (ridged on one side, flat on the other), and therefore no need to find a storage place for the plates not in use. The new plates have a good substantial weight. I don't have the old ones here for comparison, but the quality of the plates certainly was not cheapened.

Improvement: It used to be a little tricky to put the plates in place and to remove them. There was also a difference between the top plate and the bottom, so you had to be careful not to try to put them in the wrong way. The plates now have an identical shape, so they are interchangeable, and the release buttons activate a spring-loaded mechanism that pops the plate loose for easy removal.

Now, to see how it cooks: The Griddler takes about as long to warm up as a good-quality waffle iron. Just when you start to get impatient with it, it's ready.

The first thing that I cooked was a no-no in the eyes of Cuisinart - a bone-in, skin-on leg and thigh chicken quarter. Too thick, they say. HA! says I, because I am a bit of an anarchist. I marinated the chicken in olive oil and rosemary, heated the Griddler to Medium. I cooked it on the panini plates because I love those little fake barbeque stripes across my food. It worked just fine. (I should have taken a picture, it came out looking beautiful. But I was hungry.)

Word of warning: Do not cook thick or fatty meat on High - you will get grease spatters all over the place. Medium works just fine in such instances.

I discovered from my old Griddler that when cooking meat it's best to turn off the heat before it's done, and let it finish cooking with the residual heat in the plates. That way the meat does not get overdone.

For clean-up, I let the plates cool down, and then put a wet paper towel across the bottom plate and close the lid and let it sit for a while. The dampness softens anything that is stuck to the plates, and then it can be easily washed off with a sudsy sponge or dish wand.

Today for lunch, I made myself a sandwich with sliced sourdough bread, cooked sliced chicken breast, fresh grated parmesan cheese and dried basil. I followed the panini directions in the small cookbook that comes with the Griddler. Well, I sort of followed the directions... Cuisinart recommends brushing the outside of the sandwich with olive oil. I prefer to use melted butter on panini because it makes the sandwich crisper.

I preheated the Griddler on High, placed the sandwich inside, and applied light pressure for about 30 seconds, and then let it cook. The directions say to cook panini for about 4 -5 minutes, but my sandwich was ready to eat in 2 minutes. Maybe the butter makes the bread brown faster than olive oil.

In any case, it was beautiful - evenly browned, crunchy and delicious, and I did take a picture (see product images).

How durable will the GR-4NAM be? Good question. From everything that I can see so far, Cuisinart has only made the Griddler better. But time is the real test of quality. I will report back from time to time regarding durability.

Right now, I'd say this looks like an excellent buy.

UPDATE, January 2011:

The Griddler is still in great shape. Granted, I am not using it as frequently as I did my original one, but that's because there are fewer mouths to feed in my household now than there used to be. I have no cautionary tales to add to the review. Hmmm... I think I'll go make a grilled cheese sandwich....

Additional thought: Do not spray the non-stick plates with Pam or similar non-stick coating. I did not realize that this was not a good idea until I purchased some high-end non-stick cookware, and the manufacturer stated that doing so may leave a residue on the coating that destroys the non-stick properties.

In the last few years, I have spent a lot of days and weeks and weekends in Germany, where I came to know the beauty of late morning wake ups and the frothy milk topped coffee from the home milk frother. No one I know US had one, but in Germany they are a common household item that you see everywhere.

I've had my eye on these for a while, and finally got this one. It is easy to use, has clear novice instructions on the back of the box and has an instruction manual inside if you need more re-assurance. I was easily able to froth 1/4-1/3 cup of iced vanilla latte into 3/4 cup in very little time. The recommendation of about 20 seconds is accurate. This frother has more than enough power to froth any drink you like in any volume you like.

The tip of the frother does spin, not vibrate, like a mini version of the hand held blenders that are popular. It worked perfectly and as hoped, and I expect to make lots of interesting hot chocolate and other hot/cold/mixed drinks in the days to come. It has a rubberized texture and was of the expected quality. I have attached a video to show the frothing power. Impressive!

If you have any questions please leave them below and I will answer them ASAP.

By a lot of hard hours and days and years of time spent reviewing, I found myself in the top 10 reviewers on Amazon. This wasn't a goal or self promotion, but by nose-down focused reviewing. I occasionally get contacted by manufacturers or sellers who appreciate my way of reviewing and ask if I'll consider reviewing a product for them, with no obligation or cost. This is one of those products. I assure you that I review what I want, when I want, how I want, in order to share what I feel is the most accurate useful information.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

I recently started drinking The Macallan single malt Scotch. While looking at merchandise on their website, I found an ice sphere press and wanted one immediately. The problem is the price tag. The one sold by Macallan is 650 Euro which by todays exchange rates will cost you about $843. All other brands of ice sphere presses I've found ranged from $500-$1,500. I thought there had to be a better option and then I found these.

These ice sphere molds work perfectly. Use as directed and you will achieve a clear practically perfect 2.5" sphere of ice each time. Durable and well contructed from food grade materials. You'll get clearer ice if you use filtered or boiled water. If prefered, you can even add fruit and stuff into the molds for presentation.

This morning, I used 2 spheres to chill a very large cafe latte. I would normally fill almost the entire glass with regular ice and then have to add more ice half way through cause it melted. These spheres worked perfectly. Hardly any dilution of my espresso and by the time I finished there were still 2 resonably large ice spheres in my glass that I could have continued to use in a refill. These things are just brilliant! I have no idea why anyone would ever spend $500-$1500 for a press when they could have these. These are perfect to chill your liquor or any beverage you prefer to not become diluted.

Someone rated this product at 2 stars. If you actually read their review you'll understand that the person is an idiot. If the 2.5" ice sphere doesn't fit your glass, use a different glass. If you don't want your beverage to splash, put the ice in first. It's just common sense.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

It works great for cooking and baking! A reusable substitute for wax and parchment paper. I recommend reading the instructions and details that come on the package. You don't need to oil or spray down before putting food on it. I sometimes sprinkle flour first if I'm baking something like pizza or bread on the surface. Just place food on the mat on a tray, and pop it in the oven. Don't exceed the temperature range, don't scrub it with the back side of a sponge, and don't cut on it - in fact, avoid using anything near it that could potentially cut it, because once it's cut you can't use it anymore.

I am pleasantly surprised that it has not blackened like all other mats do and that the quality has remained the same since I bought it (probably used them about 30 times in the oven since). I also use it for rolling out dough and fondant - Not an ideal surface, because it gets sticky, but at least it's cleaner than using my kitchen countertop. I have yet to try it with chocolate and candy making, but I'll update once I have.

3 Month update: Still awesome, I use these about twice a week. The only thing that's stained has been a tomato-oil sauce. I have now tried the mats w candy making (ie, pipe melted chocolate on it, and throw it in the fridge or freezer), and it worked really well. Only problem is if you're gonna roll up the mat to make a curved 3D piece, note the candy/chocolate will stick to both sides and you'll need parchment paper on one side. Alternatively, potentially try corn starch to avoid sticking? I have yet to try this technique.

This BBQ set is so cheaply made and not at all worth the money. I bought it as a gift and immediately put it back in the box to ship back the same day. I would be embarassed to give it as a gift, it looks as if it was from a dollar store - very very cheap. I am confidant it would not last more than a couple uses. The "case" it was in was black plastic and had scratches and dents all over it. The tools wouldn't even stay in the case and all fell out every time you closed the case. Don't waste your time or money!!

review

I chose the Cuisinart brand for known quality.

- The stainless steel is a good quality being bright versus dull and is thick/sturdy. It appears that the mesh will not separate from the strainer rim. The handles also are well connected to the strainer rim.

- The mesh is fine enough to strain grain products such as rice and quinoa and yet sturdy enough to hold up in use and storage. My previous strainers dented and didn't retain their shape whereas these are pliable but go back to their original shape right away.

- When filled, the largest strainer feels balanced. I can hold a strainer full of berries and run water while bouncing the strainer up and down to rotate the berries under water and feel in control of the strainer. My older one felt like the strainer portion was always tipping away from me and that the handle wasn't sturdy enough to counter balance the strainer.

They say dishwasher safe however I don't intend on putting them in the dishwasher but rather I hand wash and dry since it's so quick and easy.

So far I feel as though I made an excellent choice. I'll edit this review if I find out otherwise.

Sept 2013

It is still an excellent product for the price. It remains looking like new even though I've used it daily for a year.

I have had my grinder for 12 years now. It works the same today as it did new, and I use it about 10 times a week. For the money, it can't be beat. That said, this grinder is not for everybody.

This grinder is perfect for anybody with a coffee maker that uses #4 paper CONE filters (or slightly bigger or smaller). I emphasize PAPER because a permanent filter is not good for this grinder. Like any blade grinder, it will produce some dust. That creeps through the permafilter and into your pot is makes sludge. It sloppies up your coffee. Nothing gets through paper filters though.

It also grinds coffee fine. You really don't have a choice. It is ok for espresso as well if you are not a connoisseur. If you try a coarse grind with this unit, you will be out of luck. If you don't grind long enough, you will leave a few beans whole or in large pieces.

If you need anything other than a fine grind and don't mind using paper filters (I prefer them), then look no further.

I deducted a star because it has limitations, but the truth is, for probably 80% of the coffee drinkers out there, this grinder is all you need.

I have owned and used this breadmaker for 5 years now and there is no reason to get another one. The best part is it comes out with a loaf of bread that looks like a loaf of bread, not some tube of baked stuff.

This one is reliable.

As for making a good loaf of bread, one of the best hints I have found to follow is to measure your flour not by volume but by weight - a cup is 5 oz. This is what bakers do because all kinds of things can affect the volume of the flour you're measuring; moisture, settling, etc.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

review

OK - I don't usually write reviews, but I do read a ton of them and yes, some of them sound like they are written by manufacturers of the product while others sound like they may be from the competition. If you weed through enough of them though, you can basically get the down and dirty of what the product can and can't do.

I am here to tell you what I found out.

I read a lot of reviews on numerous websites about this little product after seeing the infomercial on it. I never did the MagicBullet, but heard good things about it from some friends who owned one. After hitting the juice craze recently, I became quickly frustrated with the tossing out of all that good pulp which I was sure was being wasted and could be good nutrients for the body, just being tossed out. Prep time on top of that and the clean up was becoming quickly a chore. I am convinced on the benefits of fruits and veggies and to date have lost more than 50lbs since Jan incorporating juicing into my Weight Watchers routine.

OK - so I read a lot of reviews - when it came right down to it - the only real gripe I saw that people were having was this "leak" issue. For those that say this is just a blender - I would beg to differ - my fancy Cuisinart blender doesn't pulverize FLAX seeds and coffee beans the way this thing does. Just try putting some small flax seeds in your blender with some fruit and tell me you get the smooth consistency that this little work horse puts out. OK - so it is more than a blender - now the overall:

Power: no problem - scared me a bit the first time I pushed down on it with it's force, but was nice to know it does sound powerful. I have put carrots, ice, apples and FLAX seeds all at once in here and it comes out smooth as silk - no problem. Remember - this is not a "JUICER" this makes JUICE SMOOTHIES with PULP -

Clean Up: A snap....a breeze - sooooooo much easier than my juicer. Love it. I can go into the kitchen, make a smoothie, clean up and be out in about 5 minutes. Juicing took 10-15 minutes of prep time alone, then another 5 minutes or so of cleanup. Took half my lunch hour to make a juice....

Recipes: There are lots of good recipes and ideas in the book that came with it - don't think I got the extras they talk about on the TV which is sad - but I am sure I can dig those up on line somewhere.

Leak Issue: OK - Here is the deal....for all you people who cannot read the instructions in the manual that comes with the unit. DO NOT OVERFILL - SCREW BASE ON SECURELY. If you didn't understand that, then here let me state it this way - HEY! SCREW THE BASE ON TIGHT AND DON'T PUT TOO MUCH STUFF IN IT. Still don't understand - how about this - DO NOT FILL ABOVE THE LINE MARKED ON THE CONTAINER WHICH STATES - MAX FILL LINE

I don't know how much clearer I can be without demoralizing someone at this point. It's simple folks - you need to leave enough room (airspace) in the container to allow blending to occur. If there is not airspace - liquid will push out at any seam it finds - consequently - it will leak. Follow the instructions, do not overfill and screw the base on securely and it will work beautifully. Here is another tip - because I have gone a little over on the fill once or twice. If while blending you keep an eye on the base where it meets the clear plastic container - you can see the leak working its way up through the threads of the base. If you see this happening, stop the unit and take some out and re-blend. Simple. Best practice is though to NOT OVERFILL - DO NOT FILL ABOUT MAX FILL LINE - TIGHTEN BASE SECURELY. Got it????

Price: I purchased mine at Target for $99 as most customers were complaining about the leak issue and if I had to return it, better to do it at the store where I bought it. Most times, I would go through Amazon, but this one had me thinking with all the banter about the darn leak issue, so I played it safe. I hear they sell them at some Bed Bath and Beyond's too if you are looking locally. And yes, far better than dropping hundreds on a Vitamix or Blendtec.

Comparisons to other: I did look at the Ninja Pulse unit as well. I was on the fence right up till I went to the store on which one I was going to get. I looked at both of the displays and found the Nutribullet was far beefier than the Ninja. The Ninja was light and "plasticky" and took up a little more space than the Bullet. And then here was the kicker for me. I looked down and there were no Nutribullet's on the shelf and 4 or 5 Ninjas. So - I was off to the next Target across town only to find they were sold out there as well. I asked the lady in the department when they expected more and she said - "We cannot keep them in stock, they sell out very quickly". OK - so that cinched the deal with me with the decision on which one to get. I then went to Target's online website, looked it up there and did a "Stock Check" for stores in my area - All were sold out except one which was about 30 miles away - so I made the trek up and go there to find ONE last unit on the shelf - MINE!!! I spoke to my sister in Denver and she was looking for one out there and found the same problem - sold out all over Denver, but found hers at BB&Beyond. When checking out the lady at the register said she was amazed at how many of these were selling recently. So ...this is a hot item folks....you may have to look around to find it in your town. Check the Target site for "Locate Locally"...it will save you some time - or just buy it on line from Amazon. You shouldn't need to return it because it doesn't leak if your remember to NOT FILL ABOVE MAX FILL LINE and TIGHTEN BASE SECURELY.

Overall Opinion: Have had this unit about a week and have done several dozen drinks with it so far and have absolutely no complaints - works great, is powerful and does not leak if your remember to NOT OVERFILL and NOT FILL ABOVE MAX FILL LINE.....lol. I love having my pulp back - - - Happy Smoothing Everyone!!!

P.S. My apologies to those who may be offended by my over stating the "common sense" aspect of the proper usage of this product. I realize "common sense" has lost its way in many areas of our society these days and when people cannot read the instruction manual which clearly says "Read First Before Using" then I start to wonder if maybe "literacy" is more the issue than "common sense". Either way - if you are reading this and feel offended by my comments about you not being able to understand what it means to NOT FILL ABOVE MAX FILL LINE or TIGHTEN BASE SECURELY, then I am sorry.....for you.

[Update:]

Nov 3, 2012 - Just checking in after seeing the last reply to my post and thought I would post an update here. First let me say I am very surprised at all the replies to my post, glad to see I am not the only one who thinks out things sensibly still. So, with the help of the NB and Weight Watchers, I am down 102 lbs since last January 1 in my quest to lose 165 by mid summer 2013. Since purchasing the NB in June, I have dropped about 40 additional lbs. (Averaging about 10lbs per month). I contribute much of the success to the NB and all the good things I can put in there and the benefits of having all of the stuff back in my drink rather than tossing it from using my old Juiceman Juicer. The NB itself is still working quite well, I have had no problems, 1 or 2 minor leaks (teaspoon or less), but it was due to my own errors of packing in a little too much or on a sleepy morning not tightening it quite tight enough. All in all, so very happy with the unit still and still highly recommend. Good luck everyone and I hope you can enjoy this little gem of an appliance as much as I have. - DH

[Update:}

Nov 21, 2013 - OK folks, time for me to chime in on this "rust and blade issue". I have been meaning to do this for awhile, but it seems people are really freakin on this rust and which blades to be looking for etc. I see some have posted some pictures of the newer style base. I am going to add mine with comments in red showing you difference between old and new styles.

I find it very hard to believe this is rust in these other pictures - are you all not drying your unit after you wash it and then just leaving it in the cabinet for 3 or 4 months before taking it to use again and then NOT washing it before you use it? I mean really....I take glasses out of the cabinet which we use each year at Christmas time and I ALWAYS wash them cause I don't like the taste of dust. If I looked and saw rust on blades I think I would either wash the heck out of it or not use it at all. I somehow think this might be fruit sedament which has not been cleaned off or washed and then let to sit. There could not possibly be grease inside this thing, maybe some light oil on the bearings...if it even uses bearings. I don't know what to tell you....I wash mine because I like clean utensils before I used them, sorry....personal preference.

OK, so yes as I mentioned in a reply to someone - I did have a loud sound like grinding almost, start about a year after I had it and I called customer service and for the price of shipping and handling ($6 I think) they sent me a new base. Immediately I saw the differences in blade configuration and in construction. Then when I tried it - wow - much much quieter....but I think mine was really getting louder over time. SO yes, the new blade extractor base is far "beefier" in construction and seems to be much quieter than the original ever was and also just seems "tighter".

Yes!! This is the same original unit I bought and it is still working fabulously and I use it ....8-10 times a week and my wife also uses it. I have been traveling a lot for work the last couple months so my regiment has been slightly adjusted on my weight loss program.

So bottom line on this update - I still love it, new base is best, make sure you get one with new base.

And for all the nice commenting folks congratulating me on my weight loss - here's an update. I am down it total 140 pounds. I did not make my goal of 220 by my 50th, but I have not put back on any...well a few here and there, but then lost them again...up and down a bit, but not focusing on my WW meetings as much and etc etc.... but I still feel great and much more active, swimming and working out. I contribute the success to WW and the NB....and of course "discipline".

Hope this helps - Check out the new pics I am adding now. - DH

This is a very pretty set that has about anything you'd need in cookware; some pros and cons however.

What You Get

1 Quart Saucepan with lid

2 Quart Saucepan with lid

6 Quart Stockpot/pasta boiler with lid

3 Quart high sided saute pan with lid

8 1/2 inch skillet NO lid

10 inch skillet, NO lid

tools appropriate for nonstick: turner

9" by 5" Loaf pan for bread or meatloaf

Baking sheet

Turner/spatula suitable for nonstick

Brush/peeler combo tool for preparing your veg

Lids and handles have silicone heat protection.

Pros:

Attractive. I like orange--it's my accent color. It is appetizing and even works for serving (lazy) out of the pot.

Everything you'd need, just about, except one larger pot for lobster and maybe pasta (it's on the border of the right size for pasta)

Seems to be PFOA-free, though not specifically saying so here. Other ceramic/nonstick by Ray is listed as PFOA free

Coating is the "silverstone" style nonstick that works well

Cons:

Not for glass top electric stoves. If you heat it too much, the enamel can fuse to your cooktop.

May not work on induction. I don't think it has enough ferrous metal in the base: generally, porcelain lined pans are not suitable without enough metal. You need a good magnetic attraction for induction to work. I'd say: NO.

Says dishwasher safe: no. Don't do that. Enamel can etch over time in the strong detergent used in dishwashers. Enamel can get an ashy surface as the glass substance can get etched with microscopic scratches and haze (enamel is, basically, glass fused onto metal.)

Enamel chips if you drop it (ask me how I know.)

Enamel, if not cleaned thoroughly after each use, develops spots and stains that you can't remove easily. If you use harsh abrasives, it will develop scratches.

This is not very thick enamel or thick metal on the pots. Unlike cast-iron-enamelware (such as Staub or Le Creuset) this is not as durable.

Eventually, all non-stick wears down, though this kind is better than some.

Summary:

On sale, this is a very good deal and very pretty pots in all the sizes you want. The high sided skillet with lid is particularly useful. It's a great starter set for someone in their first kitchen. It may not last. You have to watch how you use it. Not as durable as other types of pots and pans, not suitable for every kind of cooktop.

We ordered this set to add on to an existing mish mash of pots and pans we've had for years. The hope was that we could toss some of the older pans out.

Strong Points: Great coating, the food literally slides off with little effort. Inclusion of a couple tools is a nice touch (though not sure it's worth paying more for, as the tools probably retail for a dollar or two). Heating distribution is even, and so it cooks effectively.

Weak Points: Small. It's hard at times to convert 8" pot into a visual, especially when the pictures show things that look bigger. A few of the pans are suitable for children, but not big enough to cook something for a single adult.

Overall, the product appears well made, but I would go to a more expensive set with a larger selection of pots and pans if I was going to use these as my primary cooking utensils.
